The Basement East at 917 Woodland — that marquee is the week’s lineup, and on a sellout night the block fills before the doors do. Sirocco sits beside it, Up-Down’s rooftop is a few doors east, and Attaboy is around the corner on McFerrin behind a plain red door with the house rules posted on it, Lowbar signed from the same alley. One address, one text, and the whole strip is a single dispatch.
The long road north.
Gallatin Avenue is East Nashville’s spine: Dino’s and its Coca-Cola sign at 411 Gallatin, Star Struck Vintage’s white arches a few blocks up, Tailgate Brewery’s rainbow mural past that. It is a street built for one car and several stops — the hourly play — and it is the road that becomes the Eastern Corridor toward Hendersonville.

Main Street is where East Nashville checks in. Waymore’s Guest House at 811 Main has 93 rooms and Tall Tales on its fifth-floor rooftop — the view at the top of this page — which makes it a natural airport-run anchor. Bolton’s Spicy Chicken & Fish holds down 624 Main with a press wall that lists The New York Times, Southern Living and Bon Appétit. Butcher & Bee, Hawkers and Noir at 501 Main fill the blocks between.

Mas Tacos Por Favor at 732 McFerrin and The Pharmacy’s beer garden sit across the street from each other. Down on W Eastland, Spicy Boys’ fleur-de-lis deck, Peninsula inside the Eastland building, and Lakeside Lounge’s fish mural mark the corners. Point-to-point works here; hourly works better when dinner turns into three places.

The new Nissan Stadium is rising on the East Bank, and event nights here will reshape the river’s east shore. That sunset frame is our Escalade on the riverfront, skyline behind it.
